ODST OST

In my past review of Halo 3: ODST I mentioned the musical talents of Martin O'Donnel and Michael Salvatori. I said something along the lines of how great it was to compliment the game. After listening to it for several weeks I can confirm that this transcends just video game music. Mr. O'Donnel was given free reign of his skills with the new Halo/non-Halo game. Where in the previous games he was essentially restricted to the classic Halo monks that we all know and love.

ODST provided a clean slate to start anew and it shows. The ODST OST allows the audience to imagine the scenes from the game with no visual aid at all. O'Donnel mixes the piano and strings beautifully well with the adhesion of the saxophone giving a saddened feel to the pieces. But the theme is hardly melancholy. the simple increase in tempo and adding percussion creates a sense of adventure while every once in a while hints to the original Halo's like an actor smiling behind his mask. These two pieces I chose to share are my favorites because they are the best of both moods that ODST brings. "Deference for Darkness" has a very dark and gloomy feel that much of the game has. "The Menagerie" has a serious, but brash mood that reminds the audience what Halo is.

In conclusion, The ODST OST from the lead composers at Bungie studios have really done it again with their latest soundtrack. Perfect for reading, writing or just a quiet cooldown with some tea, this gentle but powerful music is perfect ad to a collection for Halo fanboys like myself and music lovers alike.
