Lego Rock Band
So here I am sitting in the lounge of my residence, doing some homework and mindlessly browsing the newest Kotaku posts. When all of a sudden I stumble upon a post titled 'Lego David Bowie Sways Under The Serious Moonlight."
Turns out it was Lego Rock Band.
Captivated, I click on the read more button. (hint)
Now, at first I was a bit like, "Wow. Talk about blatant brand recognition." But is it really?
The thing is, yes. It is pretty blatant. But! They aren't just slapping the Lego name on it and calling it a day. It seems that they are adding easier difficulty modes in order to appeal to 'budding musicians' and make it a little more family friendly. But do not fear! They are keeping in the harder difficulty modes so it will still appeal to all of you hard as fuck shredders.
The songs they have announced so far are actually looking pretty decent, with some notable artists being Vampire Weekend, Incubus, David Bowie (as pictured above), and Jackson Five. The entire list of currently announced songs can be found on the games Wiki.
You may be wondering about what exactly is the Lego component of this game. Well, they are pretty much doing all of the graphics as Lego characters as you may expect. Also, they are adding customization elements to the characters, allowing you to create a Lego version of yourself, or really anyone, to play as. They are also adding the ability to design your bands vehicles, assistants, and a 'rock den'. Although, I am really hoping they give you the ability to create your own venue, because that would be awesome. They are also turning the notes into colored Lego blocks, as illustrated by the picture, which seems sort of tacky but it really isn't that bad.
Also announced are Lego inspired game modes, an example of one is destroying a building while playing a song. I don't really know if that will appeal to a super huge audience, but I am sure younger gamers will find some enjoyment in the games various mini-games. Its also been noted that Iggy Pop is the games tutorial voice actor and will be lending his likeness for an in game avatar. All existing rock band peripherals will work for this version, ESPECIALLY THE SMOKE MACHINE.
One more important bit of information, all of these songs can be exported to the regular Rock Band, so if you see a bunch of songs you like but aren't so fond of the Lego part, just pick it up as a song pack!
This game will be available November 3 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. We will keep you updated if anything exciting happens with this game!
