Marvel Civil War

Hero versus hero, villains hired by the government to track down heros, an armoured avenger versus a patriotic icon, where can you find all of this? Inside marvel's civil war. I know what many of you are thinking, that civil war happened over a year ago but with the recent release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 which deals heavily with the civil war storyline I figure why not review one of the most in depth marvel storylines.

The premiss of civil war is fairly straightforward, while filming their reality show in Stamphord, Speedball and the New Warriors run into to Nitro, Cobalt Man, Speedfreak and Coldheart. In the ensuing battle Nitro bolts and Namorita follows him to a nearby school, while trying to apprehend him Nitro uses his power to explode his own body and wips out several city blocks including the entire elementary school, over 600 people were killed including 60 children and the public was not very happy.

The Super Human Registration Act is a law that states that all people with powers must register their identities with the Government and S.H.I.E.L.D and be properly trained in the use of their powers, once they have registered they can then choose to work as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D or they can have normal lives. Public opinion on the super human registration act had been lukewarm and a final decision had not been reached, but the incident in Stamphord changes everything.
When the registration act is made law the entire marvel universe is thrown upside down, Captain America is asked by Director Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D to act as a figure head for pro-registration but Cap, staying true to his values and beliefs, declines as he sees it as a violation of human rights. Cap escapes custody and becomes the figurehead and leader for an underground team of hero's fighting against the act.

Tony Stark steps in to figurehead the Pro-registration side and things start to heat up, and hero's are forced to choose sides, some side with Cap as they believe in him and feel the need to protect their identities, and some believing that super powers can be dangerous side with Iron Man.
The Civil war storyline changes everything you ever though you new about the marvel universe,  and divides fan boys. Some scream that Iron Man was right all along and some faithfully stick by Captain America. I dont want to ruin the storyline by saying to much but I will say one thing, if you like comics or have ever liked comics check this storyline out, it is one of the biggest changes the marvel universe has ever gone through and it is even now a year after taking place still effecting marvel hero's.

    + Insane plot twists
+ One of the most memorable conclusions
+ Some of the largest hero V.S hero fights ever
    - can be confusing at times if you are only following the main Civil War arc

Note: Civil War spans from the main book Civil War to almost every other comic in the Earth 616 universe. If you want the full storyline I would strongly recommend checking out more than the just the main Civil War comics.

  2. There is a civil war compendium that has the core issues of the civil war storyline, which is great if you just want to get the just of the series. If you want to get more in depth i would recommend following the Iran man series during civil war as well as the Captain America series and even the Amazing Spider-man arc. If you have a favorite comic as well then following that during the civil war plot line would be good. If your looking for more information on the Registration act itself then any of the comics from the road to civil war line is good as well
