Top Games (I've played) of 2009!

As this year closes out and another one begins It's time to look back on this year in gaming and reflect of which stood above the rest. So gather round children, and I'll tell you a tale of soldiers, zombies, assassins, Batman, and Aliens. For this is the 8.bit.superstars top five games of 2009!

#5 - Halo Wars. Starting off at the bottom of our list is Ensembles last game in march before the studio closed it's doors. They left of legacy of another notch in the Halo series, but it was a keeper. What made it so memorable was the fact that it was the first real-time-strategy game to nail console controls. I grew up with Red Alert and Tiberium Sun waves of Command of and Conquer games and playing HW really worked with the controls the way that made me like the RTS'. But it wasn't just the controls, the game stayed true to the Halo universe with little things like the sound of a warthog's chain-gun and grunts fooling around when they sit still to long. It stayed true to the beloved series in its own way. But it was the multiplayer that won me over. the hour+ long battles really tested your mettle against other players and every game had a great story to tell your friends. That fun tripled when your friends would play with you. MAC blasting an enemy advance on your friend's base was exhilarating and that alone deserves recognition in the top 5.

#4 - Left 4 Dead 2. Valve's king zombie game of zombie games had a sequel. There was much controversy over it originally being down loadable content, but an engine update as well as new characters, levels, weapons and zombies was too much to be a mere packet of digital information. This game brought more of what I loved (which is expected in sequels) and then beat me over the head with its features. Melee weapons became my new favorite thing, and it did well changing up the gameplay with its RUN THE FUCK TO THE ALARM AND TURN IT OFF meta game. The setting of New Orleans was thoroughly enjoyed with the thought of more bad things happening to Louisiana. And that A.I. director, THAT FUCKING A.I. DIRECTOR. I thought Valve couldn't possibly make it any more evil. I was dead wrong. I swear it knows just when you may be getting the hang of the game and it shits all over you.And because of this it really forces you and your friends to work together. A co-op experience just as good as the old one. The verses is even better with more zombies/ways to kill the survivors to choose from, the multiplayer has almost no end in sight for enjoyment. A good way to summarize L4D2 would be a fun game to play just like the old one, but with more to have fun with.

#3 - Assassin's Creed II. This game is like a rejected boyfriend coming back to his girl showing that he's changed, and like that boyfriend ACII won back the hearts of gamers worldwide. Ubisoft Montreal did us right with an accurate Renaissance Italy, a character we actually cared about, no more bullshit repetition! This allowed me to focus on the things that I was supposed to enjoy. a fun combat system that gave me a chubby with every counter-attack, and the most fluid (if sometimes hard) open world free-running I have ever seen. Evading guards became something I liked to do as I ran along rooftops and dove into the water to hide underneath a bridge. Everything I loved about AC was brought into the light and the rest was cast into oblivion. I embraced this game like a family member coming back from rehab.

#2 - Modern Warfare 2. Need I say more? The campaign was an explosion filled, testostertasic ride that would put Michael Bay to shame, but in a good way. Spec ops provided a co-op option to those who were overwhelmed by the multiplayer (n00bs) and were tired of playing through the campaign 80 times. My first thoughts were that it was just some lame thing crammed in. But they quickly changed to adoration when I found they literally took my idea of having one guy on the ground and another in an AC-130, and turned it into a level. And the Multiplayer, MY GOD THE MULTIPLAYER. It brings a tear to my eye with its customizable loadouts of killstreak rewards, perks and weapons. But what really makes me keep playing it at 3:00 am is the rewards and unlocks. I find myself constantly checking my challenges to see how many headshots are left to get the new camo for my sniper rifle or how much exp I need to level up and get a new gun. The bagillion carrots on sticks keeps me motivated to play well past reasonable hours. As a testament, the menu screen is playing right now in the background and as soon as I finish writing this, Im going to resume playing. For that Infinity Ward's game gets the #2 slot.

Now, what game could possibly beat a 10/10? What can beat the perfect shooter of 2009? Perhaps knowing the voice behind this quote could give you enough of a hint. "Riddle me this! What crawls on four legs, then on two, then on three?""A man.""Wrong. A baby, you just have to cut off it's legs and reattach one later." If you guessed the Riddler, then you would be correct and know what game is #1 :

#1 - Batman: Arkham Asylum. Now, it may have been ranked lower than MW2 score-wise, but it towers above the rest in innovation. I have never seen a game on any platform that combines so many different types of gameplay so beautifully. The brawling dozens of thugs at once was by no means easy, but once you got a rhythm going, you could not help your jaw from hitting the floor as Batman did back flips around the room kicking and punching his way through 20 bad guys without taking any damage. The detective mode as you search for clues to progress the game, or to look for Riddler trophies hidden around the map. The platforming aspect as Scarecrow tries to rip your mind apart were unexpected and a joy to play, but nothing was as awesome as the stealth missions. Hiding in vents, swinging from gargoyles, setting traps with sonic Batarangs and explosive gel was epic on levels humans can barely perceive. What made the game so amazing was how it was different, how a non-shooter captivated me for many hours and triple play throughs. It was something that was completely new and fresh from the Halo's and COD's. Also, you may know that there have been many Batman games in the past. However they have only ever been side scrolling beat-em-up's or Bionic Commando rip off's. Rocksteady finally did it right. And they did it right in a big way. Using the voice talents of the original cast from the 1992 Batman animated series (Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker) was the greatest thing anyone could have done for a DC fan and someone who grew up watching that cartoon. It's funny how something you watched as a kid really holds up and becomes as template on how to do a series right. Character bios and "patient interviews" of people you see in the game are another way to allow players to get immersed in the universe and there are a bunch more bio's of who didn't make it into the game, but are just as important. These little nods hold true to the Batman story and make it even more enriching to fans and gamers alike.

There you have it, the top five. I know I have missed other great games such as Uncharted 2 for the PS3 and Punch Out! for Wii. But I never got the opportunity to play them as student who can only afford an Xbox 360. Feel free to leave comments and have a discussion on what your top 5 were. See you in 2009!

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 Teaser

All I can say is FTW. A contender for my top game of 2009 is getting a sequel! I am stupid excited, like fucked-in-the-head excited. This trailer brings up an idea kicking in my head for a while. While playing this game I caught myself glancing towards the city and wondering about running rampant with the Batmobile and Batwing. In classic batman fashion you see that the greatest villain in history has once again escaped custody and is licking his wounds from his last encounter with Batman. You clearly see Gotham is tearing itself apart with crime running rampant with the only line of text "Arkham Has Moved" at the end. Does this mean that BAA2 is going to be an open world free roamer? This looks a lot like that idea is going to be given life. But that isn't anywhere near how excited I am to hear the voice talents of Mark Hamil as the Joker once again. You know when the first time you watched Star Wars as a kid and thought how cool it was? You know how even today it holds up and everyone has fond memories of it? That's EXACTLY how I feel when I see this. Knowing that there are other people who adored the 90's animated series so much to have created a game with the original voice actors just makes me tear up. So I am going to watch this about a dozen more times and play BAA now, see you later readers!

Halo: Reach New Trailer!!

I have no shame in saying that I am one of the biggest Halo fanboy in existence. I own all the books and special editions of the series and I am seriously considering getting the SPARTAN II program emblem tattooed on my shoulder. So when I heard about a new trailer for Bungie's latest continuation of the saga Halo: Reach, I turned into a little girl again:

from what is shown, there is a clear engine update as well as new armour sets for the Spartans. If you thought the chief's armour was badass, get a load of the guy who carved a skull into his EVA helmet! Amongst the dialogue I noticed the reference to a lieutenant Spartan. This can only mean that one of my favorite characters and the main protagonist from the Ghosts of Onyx, Kurt, will be present for this story. And the fall of reach is the most referenced plot from the series and is my favorite story from the books. All in all, I am super excited for the beta and the awesomeness that will grace us in fall 2010.

New Guild Wars 2 Trailer!!!

Here is the latest teaser trailer for NCsofts Guild Wars 2. This is a video highlighting all of the playable races you should already probably know about, but gives a bit deeper of an understanding of what they each stand for and how they will act in combat.

They have also updated the race info on the Guild Wars 2 website: Guild Wars 2

The races in Guild Wars have always been really fleshed out, and this looks like its going to be a great addition to the lore.

CD of the week.

The Shanks
The Dark Richard Show
2009

Let me first apologize for the two day delay, my bad guys, but I'm doing it now instead of my two design projects that are due tomorow morning.

This CD fell into my lap this week quite unexpectedly, I was hanging out visiting my mom before she goes to Thailand for 5-6 months, we went to a bar in Guelph hopeing to catch a show by "The Wooden Sky." As we finished our first beer the bartender informed my mother that the band wouldn't be going on until 12, a good 4 hours from then and well past her bed time. We ordered a couple more beers and decided we didn't want to pay the $8 cover to see the other bands that were playing, kinda shitty I didn't get to review a live show this week instead but oh well. So when we got home she tossed me the CD I am now listening to, saying that "a family friend's daughter's band (Machettes) had open for this band but it wasn't really her kind of music, did I want it?" I previewed a few tracks and decided "Yes, I will keep this album. Thanks mom!"

I had never heard of this band until then. I am now listening to the two piece band and I have to admit at first it was a bit underwhelming, nothing too special. But now I can see the merit in their music and I am getting a feel for it and I changed my mind, this band is special. The drums, guitar and vocals go together in much the same way DFA's music sounded, but it doesn't quite accomplish the gritty and booming sound that only DFA can pull off. Instead the band has saturated their songs with clever melodys and pop influenced leads that make the songs sound big. But on the same note the songs gave me the feeling of a sort of emptiness, like something was missing. On parts of the CD there is a strings section that they put in, it helps a bit to fill out the songs. My favourite tracks from The Dark Richard Show are track 1: Bastion of Sebastion, track 2: The Undefeated Donkey and track 6: Napoleonic Dread Pt. 1.

Track List.
1. Bastion of Sebastion
2. The Undefeated Donkey
3. Killing Tune
4. Mirror, Mirror
5. Jesus, Make it Fun
6. Napoleonic Dread Pt. 1
7. The Matador
8. Christmas Star
9. Start Taking You Home

The Dufferan based band has a show coming up on December 15th at the Horseshoe in Toronto, go pick up their CD and catch an awesome show.

Assassin's Creed II Review

The two targets anxiously walk along the dirty street away from the crowds, away from the prying eyes. Cautiously they scan the alley for threatening shadows, were they followed? The real danger was above crouched on the rooftops. Like a trap ready to spring Ezio waits for the right moment. It comes as the prey turns their back to him. like an eagle he descends upon them, the sharp sound of dual hidden blades un-sheathing is heard and the hapless souls look skyward. Too late. With his full body weight behind him, Ezio plunges each blade into the eye socket of his victims, gracefully dropping the dead weights to the ground. "Assassino!" cries a guard as he stumbles upon the very men he was to watch out for, dead at the hands of a hooded figure. He turns his head to call again, "HELP! Assassino!" But the murderer was gone. The flick of a cloak over the buildings giving the only clue to his whereabouts.....

8-bit games. A culture?

I saw this today and began to think is the 8bit retro gaming beginning to rise more as a culture than just the "old video game"? Someone did a lot of work to code this homage to out favorite multiplayer zombie shooter: 8-bit Left 4 Dead. Also a great use of hip-hop (that's what the kids call it, right?) for the loved Punch Out! The Punch Out Rap.

What do you think? Is retro gaming becoming or has become an accepted culture of gaming? or is it just tributes to old friends?

What happend to D&D?

Dungeons and Dragons: a name that is deeply etched in the bible of nerd culture. Sleepless nights, 20-sided dice, and Cheetos are commonly associated with the original role playing game. But this is not a story about those things; this is a story about war, controversy, and an undying love for nerd culture.

As time goes on, products evolve. Dungeons and Dragons is no exception to this rule, they have consistently revised and relaunched the game over the last few decades, but to make changes to a game that so many hold so close to their hearts is a very delicate job. This has never been more of an issue then it is right now with the recent release of 4th Edition,  and the drastic consequences it has brought to an already divided fan base.

Modern Warfare 2 Review

On November 10, at approximately 9pm my History lecture had finished. I eagerly rode the bus back to my dwelling with one thought in my mind "3 hours....." You see, a new kind of history was about to be made. The sequel to the most played video game of all time was dropping from the skies and gracing the human race. Call of Duty's, Modern. Warfare. 2. The game that brought in 4.5 million preorders, 1.5 million more than all the copies of Halo 3, matching GTA IV's total sold copies. On just preorders. It went on to sell 7 MILLION in 24 HOURS. In one day it shattered the records and became the highest selling piece of media eva. For realz.

CD of the week.

Burn Planetarium
Valse Mechanique
2008

Let me start off by saying it is very late right now. I have been procrastinating and putting off the mountain of homework that looms on the shelf above my bed, instead I've been wasting time (I like to call it being productive in an ambiguous sense) playing super mario 64, watching man vs. wild and the food network on demand and inventing games, now I'm going to write a review because that is obviously my highest priority.

Now to the album... while I was efficiently wasting my time into the wee hours of the night, songs from this cd kept coming up on shuffle, prompting me to just listen to the Valse Mechanique all the way through for what will be my probably 100th time. Listening to it I realized that I didn't know a whole lot about Burn Planetarium, I don't even know where I found this cd (likely when I interned at the radio station).

Let me point out what I did know.
1. I know they are a college/university punk/altpop band.
2. I know nearly all their songs by heart.
3. They kind of sound like a mix between Born Ruffians and Tokyo Police Club
Note: While they share certain qualities with these bands, Burn Planetarium has it's own sound.

What I didn't know was that this band was from one of my home towns, Guelph! Ok, so the music on the album. Musically its not super impressive, its got all the components of a generic teen punk artsy pop-influenced band making it fun to listen to automatically with a bunch of really cool lyrics. But what really makes this album worth getting is the enthusiasm that Burn Planetarium put into each song. Trust me, none of these songs will disappoint you. Each time the track changes you are hit with a fresh new song that will make you move in different ways.

Track List.
1. Death! Death! Death!
2. Frankenstein kids
3. Snakefight at the Octagon
4. Werewolf by Night
5. The Mechanical Waltz
6. We Were Stenographers
7. New Way to Love
8. Red Army Fighter
9. City Wings

I'd love to see a music video for any of these songs. Maybe I'm just bad at the Internet but I couldn't even find fan made music videos for any new or old song by Burn Planetarium. I did however find a really cool live video of them in a radio library. It's on their myspace, you should probably check it out. www.myspace.com/burnplanetarium

Sorry for a sort of vague review, but that's my album pick of the week. If you are at all interested in punk/altpop get Valse Mechanique (although it might be hard unless you go to one of their shows, which is also a good idea)

Support the local scene
Peace and love
Joey
ps. if you're a band send me your stuff, I like new music, my pockets are empty so i can't buy cds and i never download because i just don't.

MW2 Review Update

So if you have checked my recent tweets or facebooking, or have a pulse, you probably noticed that Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 has been released. I promised to you friends that I would have a review of this up soon as well as a little story of the midnight release event that I attended, with pics. There are no pics,  I will explain further in my coming review. see you real soon!

DJ Hero review, by Mitch!

With the release of the much anticipated DJ Hero, I can honestly just say wow. This game just took the music video game genre by storm, and also my heart.  The game is so much fun you’ll honestly want to do nothing but play it for 13 hours straight. Much like I did.

ODST OST

In my past review of Halo 3: ODST I mentioned the musical talents of Martin O'Donnel and Michael Salvatori. I said something along the lines of how great it was to compliment the game. After listening to it for several weeks I can confirm that this transcends just video game music. Mr. O'Donnel was given free reign of his skills with the new Halo/non-Halo game. Where in the previous games he was essentially restricted to the classic Halo monks that we all know and love.

CD of the week

Port O'Brien
All We Could Do Was Sing
Self-Released May 13, 2008

Tap Tap Tap Tap! As track one begins to play I can't help but to tap my thumbs and my feet it time with the steady percussion section (drum set with an ensemble of pots and pans.) Based on first impressions alone I am already in love with this band. "I Woke Up Today" (the title track) is fun and easy to sing along with and it is one of those songs that will get stuck in your head in a very non-intrusive way. Expect to be humming its joyful melody for the rest of the day.

Port O'Brien has done an amazing job writing songs are both pleasing to and to play. The levels of the songs on this album compliment each other and flow nicely allowing for breaks in between high energy songs and slow grooves. The guitar, banjo, violin, bass and drums work together very well and lay the foundation for the awesome songs on this CD and the clear vocals chime out with a folksy and whimsical intensity that is east to listen to. The band frequently jam on certain songs and really bring up the pace and viscosity, if you will, before breaking back into a chorus or verse (the best example: Pigeonhole)

The album ends on a peaceful and short sort of sea shanty that slowly rocks and waves to a silent close.

Track List.
1. I woke up today
2. Stuck on a boat
3. Fisherman's son
4. Don't take my advice
5. Alive for nothing
6. Pigeonhole
7. Will you be there?
8. The rooftop song
9. In vino veritas
10. Close the lid
11. Valdez

My copy has no album art but the cover I found online is beautiful. Port O'Brien has a very distinct style that sets them apart from other bands like them. Instead of explaining it I'll show you with this delightful music video.

- "I woke up today" music video
The Indie/Folk band comes from California and has a definite west coast sound. They are currently doing shows in there home state in preparation for their Euro Tour starting November 20Th, 2009. If you ever get a chance to see them live DO IT, you won't be disappointed.

I highly suggest getting this album as well as checking out their latest album "Threadbare" released in October of this year.

Check them out at www.portobrien.com or www.myspace.com/portobrien

Grand Theft IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony

The final expansion pack for GTA IV hit the shelves of the local EB Games and Xbox Live Marketplace last Thursday and with Modern Warfare being a week away downloaded it to switch gears from my constant firefighting in ODST. Besides, that commercial had some of the best dance music I just had to get it. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, click here)

Left 4 Dead 2 Demo Impressions by Tyler

As of roughly noon today the Left 4 Dead 2 demo hit Xbox Live, giving gamers a taste of what the latest Valve shooter had to offer.

As an avid zombie lover, I eagerly queued it up for download. These are my impressions.

Mass Effect 2 DLC Rumor

I recently borrowed a copy of Mass Effect from Luke, and in anticipation for the squeal have started a new character. This has also caused me to pay a little bit closer attention to the news surrounding the second games release. Then I stumbled across this; according to a recent retailer training quiz, the DLC plans for Mass Effect 2 has been accidentally revealed.

D&D - Part One

Our unsuspecting heroes were sitting at the quaint tavern in the town of Seawell. Six characters in total; Meaghan's character, Vache the half-elf cleric, my very own Starfox, the dwarven fighter, Luke's Ethios, the elven ranger, Goofy Ricky's Sir Brickhouse X, the gnomish bard, Joey's Pye, the halfling sorcerer, and Kazimier, Alex's elvish rogue.

The following are the events that followed in our first serious startup in the realm of Dungeons and Dragons 3.5.

I should do a update about every week to keep a cohesive storyline going on.

Links!

Today we have added two links to our friends tab, found on the right of your screen, to join Game and Tech.

The first of these being Korrok The Unseeable. This is a blog created and maintained by our friend Alex Frid, a fellow Humber student. It is a blog about media in general, and is just really hard to classify. But definitely check it out.

The second link we have added is to The Static Urgent. This site is created and maintained by Matt Thomson, Isaac Springall, and Matt Stuart. It is another very indescribable blog. It has really entertaining, and really unique, posts.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 New Characters!

A while ago marvel announced the addition of 5 downloadable characters for MUA2. This is something we saw with the original MUA with the hero and villain packs, I personally downloaded the character pack for the original and thought it added a lot more re-playability to the game. As of now marvel has released 3 out of the 5 characters; Cable, Carnage and Psylocke. Below is my opinion on these characters.

Left 4 Dead Leaked Trailer

This video was leaked late last night and, as always when dealing with Valve, it does not dissapoint at all. It seems they are injecting a bit of a storyline into our zombie killing this time around, and the special infected look wonderful...and annoying...and awesomely badass.

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast Demo Impressions

Let this be clear, I am no fanboy of the Dragon Ball Z series or of fighting games, but I adore the outrageous DBZ fight scenes as well as the famous meme that is at least over 9000.

Mass Effect 2 Release Date Announced

The voted "Best of Show" game for E3 2009 finally has a release date. EA announced yesterday that Mass Effect 2 will be available for sale in North America on January 27 with Europe getting it later on the 29th, as usual. "Any preorder bonuses?" you ask? Certainly. Most retail stores are giving out codes for the Inferno suit (seen below left) which looks an awful lot like Iron Man and increases negotiation skills, run speed, and combat damage. Gamestops or EB Games in Canada will be getting a code for the Terminus suit (seen below right). It augments run speed, damage, shields, and adds an additional magazine of reserve ammo. The M-490 Blackstorm Heavy weapon (also seen below right) is also added to EB Games preorder package. From what I've heard it generates a localized gravity well, so it's going to be kicking ass and taking names. All I can say is it's about time we heard something about the sequel to my favorite RPG and I cannot wait to preorder some awesomeness.

Apology to Play Station Owners

If you are a PS3 owner you will undoubtedly know about the release of Drakes Fortune 2: Among Thieves and probably are playing it now. You also may be wondering why we haven't put a review up about it and as lead video game writer I feel obligated to tell you why. I can't afford it. If the PS3 slim came out a couple months ago I wouldn't be writing this. I have little reserves for food and Xbox games for the holiday season, and buying a new system plus games couldn't fit into my budget. Also I bought a bitchin new laser. You know the green ones? There's one even powerful. Violet, fucking right!

fucking right

Anyways for that I am sorry that I cannot provide you with a review but what I can tell is that I have heard nothing but good about this game. If you'd like to tell me about it, please leave a comment below. In conclusion, I can't afford it because I have a state-of-the-art laser being shipped to me from China, and I hear DF2 is great. That is all.

EA Joins the comic book industry!

Listen up Comic and Video game fans because today IDW Publishing has announced that it has teamed up with EA two launch two new comics and an entire EA imprint! EA will be calling their imprint very simply "EA Comics", they have also confirmed on IGN that all titles will be available not only in print but also to download to the IPhone and IPod Touch.
Only two titles have been officially announced, Army of Two which will be written by Peter Milligan from Hellblazer and X-Men fame. The first Army of Two story arc will be called "Across the Border" and will focus on Salem and Rios, two ex-Army Rangers who are trying to form their own private Military Corporation. The comic story will follow the storyline of the first game, but it takes place before the Invasion by Shanghai.

The second comic that EA will be publishing is called Dragon Age and no details have been released yet except that it will be based off Bioware's new game and written by Scott Card.

Stay tuned for more details

Dead Space 2 Development Announced

According to Electronic Arts, Dead Space 2 has begun development with no projection of when it will be finished. Which brings up the question, why wasn't this in development right after it came out? This game was in my top 5 games of 2008. It sold well, so while so long to get crackin at a new one? Does EA Redwood Shores studios have issues? Whatever it could be, it's good to know it's been resolved (or at least quelled) and there will be more of me screaming like a pre-teen girl to come.

Lego Rock Band

So here I am sitting in the lounge of my residence, doing some homework and mindlessly browsing the newest Kotaku posts. When all of a sudden I stumble upon a post titled 'Lego David Bowie Sways Under The Serious Moonlight."

Turns out it was Lego Rock Band.

Captivated, I click on the read more button. (hint)

Marvel Civil War

Hero versus hero, villains hired by the government to track down heros, an armoured avenger versus a patriotic icon, where can you find all of this? Inside marvel's civil war. I know what many of you are thinking, that civil war happened over a year ago but with the recent release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 which deals heavily with the civil war storyline I figure why not review one of the most in depth marvel storylines.

Super Street Fighter IV

Everyones favorite street fighting game (Street Fighter) is coming back! Again!

This seems like pretty much the exact same trailer as there was for the original Street Fighter IV. While it makes the game look awesomely stylized as fuck, it doesnt really do the game justice. Alot of fans were unhappy with this fact,

So lets look a little more in depth,

Modern Warfare 2 360 Bundle

As you probably know, a new special edition Xbox 360 has been released in the spirit of gearing up for the release of Modern Warfare 2.

BEHOLD!

As well as a decked out case with scribble THAT ACTUALLY IS MILITARY CODE it will include two controllers, a headset, and a special edition copy of the highly anticipated game. But is this worth 400 whopping dollars American? Well, there is another thing. A 250GB hard drive. This is a great value considering a 120GB drive costs half of the bundle. But to someone like myself who has had a 20GB drive and has never filled it up, it just might be not worth getting. But 360's have been cursed with a short lifespan, so any gamer who has buried their console recently and has a genuine interest in MF2 (or at least someone who calls them self a gamer) and a need for a absurd amount of space should take advantage of the bundle and pick it up.

Halo 3: ODST

Before I begin with my review I should inform you on how I got my copy of the highly anticipated game.

Its September 21, 10:30pm. I call up a good friend and ask him if he would like to pick me up for the midnight launch. He abruptly tells me that he cannot go, and so my only chance of a ride falls into shambles. Fearing I would end up last in line and have to wait until dawn before getting my copy I quickly begin walking down to the local mall. In case you don't know I am fairly heavy person. Yes I am fat. So walking 40 minutes straight wouldn't be something I would usually do. But it's video games. Anyways I arrive at the mall with enough sweat to fill a pitcher and promptly try to get in. A friendly old man opens the door as I explain my reasons for being there so late. Unsure, he calls down security and they ask me the same questions. I tell them I am here for the midnight launch of a video game at EB Games. They tell me there is no such event and that EB Games is closed until tomorrow. Now, I am pissed but refusing to walk back. I summon a cab and angrily go home. The next day I return to a now open mall to a now open EB Games and demand that they tell me why they would tell me about a midnight release of ODST when I pre-order the game, and then NOT have a midnight release. The clerk looks at me confusedly and says "......whut?" Rage settles in but I will not make a mockery of myself in such a populated area, too many witness to a clerk getting their jugular ripped out. I buy the thing I spent so much effort into I might as well have bled for and return home to relax and play ODST. Now! Onto the review,

Guild Wars 2 Trailer

As many of you hopefully know, Guild Wars is NCsofts trademark MMO. This trailer is of the sequel to Guild Wars, appropriately named, Guild Wars 2. To sum up my thoughts of this trailer;

Multiple races = WIN
Epic Dragon fights = WIN
zombie army controlled by some sort of super dragon = WIN
super dragons name = FAIL
graphics = WIN WIN WIN
higher level cap = WIN

All in all, this game looks like its going to be massive. Look forward to a more in depth review sometime soon......or whenever the beta comes out.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review

Dark clouds pour rain over Gotham city, lighting flashes angrily as the eternal storm of crime darkens every light in the city. Police cars zoom by and a CB radio crackles, "Batman is taking the Joker to Arkham Island." Then a single finned black car emerges from the shadows at a unnatural speed, YES! The old Batmobile is back! The music slowly builds up, and the dark tone that we know and love settles in.

This is Batman.
